Allentown School District Health Services is comprised of School Nurses, Dental Hygienists, Health Room Assistants and School-based Health Centers. We are committed to preventive health care for all the children in the District, taking a holistic approach to the health, education and welfare of each child. Our goal is to have every child attain optimal health. ASD provides certified professionals to care for students during school hours. They assume responsibility for all school medical and dental activities, and assure access and continuity of health care for students. Students are routinely administered health screenings, which include vision and hearing testing, height, weight and scoliosis assessment, immunization review and physical and dental examinations. If a student fails to pass any test, the student will be referred to an appropriate healthcare professional for further care. In addition to providing relevant instruction and guidance to families and staff on health-related issues, the school nurse and dental hygienist keep comprehensive health records and foster relationships with area health care providers, dentists and hospitals, especially through ASD’s school based health centers.
